POST-INTERNSHIP HIGHLIGHTS

Stay tuned!

HIGHLIGHT FROM THE INTERNSHIP

The highlight of my program experience was taking on the Year One Review report for the Senators for Climate Solutions group from beginning to the end. As an intern for Senator Mary Coyle, I worked on many initiatives for this group which she founded in 2021, including event planning and putting together briefing notes. The Year One Review report aims to provide a full picture of the group’s activities and plans for the Senate. This is a project that I worked on from scratch and it went through many phases of feedback and revisions. I believe the end product was a testament to my concise communication, project management, and well-developed understanding of this cross-party climate group. It is also a highlight of my experience because it is a document that was presented to all Senators and their staff, and one that I am the most proud of producing.

HOW DID THE INTERNSHIP HELP YOU GET WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

I believe that our political and legal systems offer incredible opportunities to drive large-scaled changes for the environment. Throughout my internship in the Senate, I have deepened my understanding of power and its significant role in these systems. I learned where power lies in the Parliament, and witnessed how people use power to make legislative and societal changes. Oftentimes, these observations aren’t reflected on paper nor in official legislative processes. I believe that this understanding allows me to approach my legal education with a critical mind that digs beyond what’s on paper and focuses on the systems in practice.
